Education is a pivotal component to workforce development. When these two entities come together, economic growth is created. Therefore, the purpose of the North AlabamaWorks Educator Workforce Academy is to raise awareness of the critical role educators play in workforce development. The goal is to equip participants with the tools and knowledge to help students navigate career awareness, exploration, and preparation activities that will guide them to a career pathway.

Outcomes:

  • Discuss the importance of regionalism and how entities work together to foster workforce development.
  • Develop local solutions to support Governor Ivey’s Success Plus initiative which has an educational attainment goal of 500,000 high-skilled employees by the year 2025.
  • Discover in-demand careers and the pathways available throughout Region 1 through career awareness, exploration, and preparation strategies.
  • Learn about career awareness, exploration, and preparation opportunities for students
  • Explore ways to increase the college and career readiness rate particularly focused on students completing a CTE course and/or earning a 3rd party credential of value that meets industry needs.
  • Evaluate programs using the simulated workplace and other Work-Based Learning initiatives that connect students to pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships, internships/externships, and co-op experiences
  • Connect and network with business and industry partners that emphasize an innovative (STEM based) curriculum.
  • Examine the labor force participation rate, with a focus on special populations, and the importance of reducing barriers to allow entrance into the workforce.
