The Living Wage Calculator was first created in 2004 by a team led by Amy K. Glasmeier, Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to analyze the composition and data of a living wage, poverty wage, and minimum wage as a measure of American household information. By taking typical expenses and the cost of living in a community, we can then see the relationship of local wage rates to standards of living for various family compositions.
